Are cam sites legal?
For adults in the United States, yes: watching consenting adults perform on a cam site is legal, and so is paying for it. What has changed recently is the door. A growing number of states require adult sites to check a visitor's age before letting them in. This page explains both sides; it is general information, not legal advice.
Why it is legal
Cam shows are adult performances between people who are all over 18. Federal law does not prohibit them. What it does require is record-keeping: under 18 U.S.C. § 2257, producers of sexually explicit content must hold proof that every performer is an adult. Cam sites comply by checking government ID before a model's first stream and keeping those records.
That check is the reason every performer you see, in any category from Indian rooms to ebony rooms, is a verified adult.
Do cam sites require ID from viewers?
It depends on where you are. Since 2023 a series of US states have passed laws obliging adult sites to verify that visitors are 18 or older. In June 2025 the Supreme Court upheld the Texas version of these laws. A public legal tracker counted 27 states with such a requirement in force in September 2026, and the list keeps growing.
In those states a site may ask for one of the following:
- a photo of a government ID, checked by a specialised provider;
- a face scan that estimates age;
- a payment-card check.
Some sites block those states entirely instead. The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Australia have comparable rules.
What this site does
Our pages show the same text to everyone. In places with an age-verification law we blur the live previews; the cam site you click through to performs its own check.
Outside the United States
Laws on adult content differ widely, and in some countries access is restricted or blocked. You are responsible for knowing the rules where you live.
Practical advice
Use sites that name the company operating them and explain their verification process. New to cam sites altogether? The kinds of shows are the place to start.

Questions people ask
Do cam sites require ID?
From performers, always. From viewers, only where the law demands it: in US states and countries with age-verification rules, a site may ask for ID, a face scan or a card check.
Why does my state ask me to verify my age?
Because it has passed a law requiring adult sites to confirm that visitors are 18 or older. The site is applying that law.
Is it legal to watch cam sites in the US?
Yes, for adults, when performers are consenting adults, which legitimate sites verify. State rules affect how you get in, not whether watching is lawful.
Are cam models verified adults?
Yes. US law requires proof of age for every performer, and sites check government ID before allowing a first stream.
